Kuli-Kala-Main-Image-(1)-with-JPN-TypefaceA Japanese swordplay stage extravaganza is about to hit the UK and it’s making a splash at HYPER JAPAN Christmas Market this November! Kuli-Kala, Revenge of the Samurai, is a fully-scored live action theatrical production featuring “Ta-Te” Japanese stage swordplay. This genre-bending collaboration comes from the theatre group 30-Delux, written by Kamen Rider scribe Nobuhiro Mori and with music provided by composer Toshihiko Sahashi, perhaps best known outside Japan for his work on Gundam SEED/SEED Destiny and The Musical Sailor Moon. The blend of live stage action and high-quality visual and audio effects with a full musical score give the production a larger-than-life, anime-style feeling, with vivid lighting and projection technology being used to make the action even more striking.

Kuli-Kala-Main-Image-(4)-with-JPN-TypefaceSet in the 16th century in the mysterious Far Eastern country of Zipang, the action-packed musical “Kuli-Kala” tells the story of an enigmatic Samurai seeking revenge against the evil Shogun who assassinated his family. The story is narrated from the perspective of an English missionary who witnessed the events and wants the fascinating tale to be told. On his journey to confront his enemy, the Samurai encounters three female Ninjas who have also had their families slaughtered by the same Shogun, and have each been forced to have a large tattoo, or “Kuli-Kala”, emblazoned across their backs. However, the titular “Kuli-Kala” is no ordinary tattoo, and allows the Shogun to cast a spell over these three Ninjas… Spectacular action scenes ensue as the four allies struggle to have their revenge!

The production runs from Tuesday November 24th until Saturday November 28th. A selection of the stars from the show will be making an appearance at HYPER JAPAN Christmas Market on Friday, with tickets on sale for their Stratford shows later that evening and on Saturday!
