Professional bartender and founder of Kampai Cocktails, Ryu Okada, is making a triumphant comeback this Christmas Market, after his Cocktail Shake-up stage demonstration achieved huge success at HYPER JAPAN 2013. On Sunday, Ryu will be showing audience members how to make smooth and stylish cocktails using three different Japanese sakes – ‘junmai’ (pure rice wine), ‘nigori’ (cloudy sake), and ‘koshu’ (vintage sake) – so make sure you come along and find out what exciting concoctions Ryu produces using these unusual ingredients! Gekkeikan Yuzu Nigori Sake
The natural sweetness of yuzu citrus combines with the cloudy texture of nigori sake to produce a unique liqueur recalling sherbet lemons. This low-alcohol liqueur is perfect served cold, with dessert, or as a digestif.
Sho Chiku Bai Shirakabegura Kimoto Junmai
A grown-up glass of banana milk. This junmai sake has a smoothly sweet palate with banana and candy-sweet overtones. Great with soft cheeses, sushi, tempura, or else as an aperitif.
Kiuchi Shuzo Gekkakow Vintage 1989
Gekkakow is Kiuchi brewery’s most prestigious vintage sake. Brewed from Yamada Nishiki rice polished down to 40%, this elite sake is then cold matured for over three years. Light with a honey sweetness, its smooth and fruity flavour is sure to delight the tongue.
