Psycho-Pass fans, rejoice!
On Friday, a whole treasure trove of details was announced on the official Psycho-Pass 3 website and now we have not only the release date, but a new visual, promo video, teasers for the new opening and ending themes and arguably the most important of all, how you can watch it!
Psycho-Pass 3 is slated to debut worldwide in just under a month, on October 24 and to get people ready, they’ve released a new promo video depicting a good chunk of the new main cast as well as a very slick looking visual. Check them out below!
I’m sure most of you are concerned about the lack of returning characters from the first two seasons and I am too but I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t interested to see how an entirely new cast operates in a world dominated by the infamous Sibyl System. If anything, we can take solace in the fact that a legendary cast of veteran seiyuu will be bringing this new ragtag team to life!
The anime stars:
- Yuuki Kaji (Eren Jaeger, Kenma Kozuke, Shū Ouma) as Arata Shindō
- Yūichi Nakamura (Iori Matsuo, Tomoya Okazaki, Tsukasa Shishio) as Kei Mikhail Ignatov
- Takahiro Sakurai (Francis Fitzgerald, Suzaku Kururugi, Rohan Kishibe) as Sho Honakawa
- Akio Ohtsuka (Black Jack, Iskandar, Batou) as Temma Todoroki
- Junichi Suwabe (Emiya, Aomine Daiki, Akira Hayama) as Kazumichi Irie
- Kaori Nazuka (Nunnally Lamperouge, Miyu Edelfelt, Tooru Hagakure) as Mao Kisaragi
- Ayane Sakura (Cocoa Hoto, Arisa Ayase, Ochako Uraraka) as Mika Shimotsuki
- Miyuki Sawashiro (Tōko Fukawa, Celty Sturluson, Fujiko Mine) as Shion Karanomori
Even with all these new characters, the show should still feel familiar to fans of the series as Naoyoshi Shiotani is returning as the series’ director and mangaka Akira Amano is returning as the original character designer.
Long time fans of Psycho-Pass will identify artists such as EGOIST and Nothing’s Carved in Stone as the usual performers for the openings and endings but with season 3, new artists will also be entering the series. The opening theme, “Q-vism” will be performed by Who-ya Extended and the ending theme, “bullet.” will be performed by Cö shu Nie (The Promised Neverland ED & Tokyo Ghoul: re ED). As for how you can watch it, the series will be streamed only on Amazon Prime Video. It will be only 8 episodes long, the shortest in the series’ history but each episode will be an hour in duration.
For those of you who may have watched the above PV but for some reason not actually watched Psycho-Pass, a brief history. The original anime series premiered in 2012 and ran for 22 episodes, detailing the story of Detective Akane Tsunemori and Enforcer Shinya Kougami in a world where a person’s mental state can be quantified with a simple-scan, the titular Psycho-Pass. In a dystopian society with this system at its core, where your penchant for criminal activities can be measured in an instant, what is right and what is wrong?
The show received a second season in 2014, which ran for 11 episodes and a movie in early 2015. This year, the franchise received 3 new films, the Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System trilogy, or Psycho-Pass: SS for short. The first film was released in Japan on January 25, titled Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System Case 1.Tsumi to Batsu (Crime and Punishment). The second film, Case 2. First Guardian, opened on February 15 and the final in the series, Case 3. Onshū no Kanata ni ____ (In the Realm Beyond Is ____), opened on March 8.
Long-time fans, are you nervous? Cautiously optimistic? Incredibly excited? First timers, does the dystopian, cyberpunk theme catch your eye?
