From the 6th to the 7thof July, the Starry Night Company will be organising simultaneous events in Kobe and Toyko, attempting to release 20,000 lanterns into the sky over the course of two days. The company will be trying to improve upon their previous lantern event last year, which they held in Osaka during the Tanabata festival.
Staying true to Japan’s iconic technological style, the lanterns used in this festival won’t be lit up by candles but by LED lights, the super safe option. There won’t be fireworks either, so this might be the festival for you if you’re looking for something a little more subdued and peaceful.
Over the course of these two days there will be musical performers, as well as guests visiting to give talks. The tickets are 6,250 yen, and I think this will be a spectacle not to miss out on if you’re in the area.
