If you’re the type to savour the moment you recognise an anime cover song, then we’ve a treat in store for you. Taking to the main stage at HYPER JAPAN will be Takaaki Konno with a selection from his latest album “Anime Uta” (lit. Anime songs) as well as a few originals of his own.
But wait! These won’t be your run-of-the-mill anime cover songs. An accomplished singer, songwriter and producer in his own right, Takaaki Konno incorporates rock, jazz, pops, latin, bossa nova, dance music, and even Japanese enka into his songs. With such a wide range of influences, it’s hard to nail down his style. Which is probably why he calls it “jazzy-rocks”. Don’t miss him on stage on Friday and Sat 2, and expect to push your anime song chops to the limit! Want a preview? Check out the video below.
Finding his calling as a musician from the tender age of 10 as he performed on the streets of Japan, Takaaki Konno is a “total sound artist”, involved in every possible aspect of music. After a successful start, he experienced a major setback when he was involved in a serious accident, resulting in multiple fractures and injuries. Vowing to come back, he went on to release his first album “Reference” in 2000, set up his own production agency in 2004, and a second album “Revenge” in 2005. Over the past 10 years, he has been active not only as a musician, releasing “Amazing Life” in 2008 – he has also been active as a producer, finding new talent and working with musical legends such as jazz doyenne Toshiko Akiyoshi.
