The Olympics are the dream of every athlete and medalists often become celebrities in their own right. At the 2012 London Olympics, female judoka Kaori Matsumoto won the hearts and minds of Japan when she won the gold medal in the women’s lightweight class. After a successful gold medal at the 2015 World Judo Championships and a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, she announced that she would be retiring on 7 February 2019.
She proceeded to delight her fans when at her retirement press conference when she responded to the question about her plans for the future with a simple “I will be making ice cream”.
