Ramen 101 with Ippudo

Ramen is food for the soul.

With golden noodles shimmering in the steam rising from a thick (or thin!) broth with topping of your choice piled up high, it is the perfect answer to an empty stomach. Given this vision of perfection, it’s no wonder that ramen consistently ranks high on any foodie’s eat-list. To that end, HYPER Creative Studio is pleased to announce a partnership with Ippudo Ramen to bring you a one-of-a-kind ramen workshop, Ramen 101, where experts will guide you
through the history of hakata-style tonkotsu ramen and the ins and outs of this delectable dish in a very easy to …ahem… digest manner.

The first half of the workshop will have participants work their way through tonkotsu ramen’s background, from its humble origins to its many present incarnations including Ippudo’s own signature broth. Characteristics of tonkotsu ramen, its differences from other types of ramen, toppings and combinations, the kaedama system – all will be explained! The second half will be more hands-on, with participants practising the “yu-kiri” process. A vital and unique process in the ramen-making procedure, “yu-kiri” is where the ramen, once removed from boiling water, is sharply shaken to remove excess water. Once mastered the art of “yu-kiri”, participants will move on to the crowning moment of the workshop, ramen tasting! Taking all the knowledge gained during the workshop, participants will taste the subtle flavours of the tonkotsu broth, ponder the chewiness of the noodles, and analyse the interplay of flavours from various toppings.

Please note that all Creative Studio activities have a limit of 50 participants, operating on a first-come, first-served basis.
