Digital drawing workshop for beginners using Clip Studio Paint with INKO Ai Takita.

New to digital drawing? No problem, let’s find out what digital drawing programs can offer!

This workshop is a perfect opportunity for anyone who wants to start digital drawing or  for those of you who has just downloaded a digital drawing software or has it already for a while and been thinking of learning basics properly.

What is Layer? What is bucket fill tool? What is Clipping mask? 

A UK based Japanese Manga artist INKO Ai Takita who has just published a bookLearn Clip Studio Paint” (pictured below)  will introduce you a very basic digital drawing skills from sketching to inking, then colouring in step-by-step.

If you’d rather just watch how a manga character is drawn digitally, that’s just fine too.

INKO Ai Takita is a Japanese Manga artist based in the UK. She was born in Kyoto, Japan. After graduating from Kyoto University of Art & Design, she moved to England and studied at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design. Her works have been recognised by many companies, museums such as British Museum, V&A Museum, Transport For London, Sony Entertainment Japan, and Guardian children’s book. She also has been designing the official images for HYPER JAPAN in 2021 and 2020.

Precautions: Suitable for digital drawing beginners of any age. ( Under 8 may need an adult’s supervision.)

At the end of the workshop, there is Q&A session for you to ask your questions to INKO. This is a great opportunity to ask whatever you have been wondering about digital drawing to a professional manga artist! As always, she will try to answer as many questions as possible!

Technical equipment needed for the workshop:

  1. You will need two devices (one for Zoom, one for digital drawing software ) and Wacom / a stylus ready.
  2. The digital drawing tool is already installed to your device, preferably Clip Studio Paint for more accurate terms and exact functions for workshop contents,
  3. Alternatively, Procreate, Photoshop, ibis Paint, or similar program to Clip Studio Paint is OK too.

If you prefer just to watch the lesson, you will not need a 2nd device nor a digital drawing software installed on your device.

Japanese manga artist

INKO is a Japanese Manga artist based in the UK. She was born in Kyoto, Japan, and she grew up with manga comics, loving both reading and drawing them. After Graduated Kyoto University of Art & Design, she moved to England and studied at Central Saint Martin’s college of Art & Design.

Her works – cross overs of modern and traditional Eastern and Western cultures – have been recognised by many companies, museums such as British Museum, V&A Museum, Transport For London, Sony Entertainment Japan, and Guardian children’s book. She also delivers manga workshops in schools, galleries and museums such as British museum and Victoria and Albert Museum. She was appointed as a culture and language ambassador with School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

Besides, her work was featured in an ‘Inking Woman 250 years of Women and Comic Artists in Britain (2018)’ and the comic ’Portrait Of Violence’ has won a bronze medal at the Independent Publisher Book Awards in 2018. The multimedia project she took part as an illustrator ‘Flight Paths’ won Innovation in Craft Award at Superfilm Disability Film Festival in 2021. She also actively takes part in art projects such as “House of The Setting Sun” exhibition at Blackwell Arts & Crafts House in 2021.

Her manga books are also available –  “Portrait of Violence (New International)” – an Independent Publisher Book Awards medal, 2018 , “Tam O’Shanter (Cranachan publishing)”, “Manga Yokai Stories (Tuttle)”, “Extreme Stickering Manga (2019)” and atmospheric horror depictions “Tam O’Shanter (2019)”.
