HYPER JAPAN’s favourite manga artist INKO Ai Takita will offer ” A Hand Drawn Personal Digital Portrait session” ahead of the Christmas season!

INKO will draw one of your portrait digitally during a casual and friendly ZOOM session dedicated for you. It only takes 20min for a single person portrait and 40min for a 2 persons DUO portrait over a friendly and casual ZOOM session! Only 2 sessions are available for each category.

To make it personal and to your likings – just chat with her in your session to make your own special portrait! (You will need to send 2 of your clearly taken photos prior to the session to HYPER JAPAN. Please see further below for more details.)

If you would like to make a portrait as a secret gift, all you need to do is sending us 2-4 photos of a model(s) (ideally with different angles and at least one to show the colour(s) of model(s)’ eyes) ahead of the session and then please discuss your preferences with INKO during the session.

As your portrait is digitally drawn, you can use your digital image for your personal use (**please see the NOTE below) as you like!
Examples are..
– use as your icon on your SNS
– print your image to frame or on T-shirts, mugs etc.
– make a personal stationery using your image
– include your image in your wedding invitation/party invites etc.

INKO Ai Takita is a Japanese Manga artist based in the UK. She was born in Kyoto, Japan. After graduating from Kyoto University of Art & Design, she moved to England and studied at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design. Her works have been recognised by many companies, museums such as British Museum, V&A Museum, Transport For London, Sony Entertainment Japan, and Guardian children’s book. She also has been designing the official images for HYPER JAPAN in 2021 and 2020.

** NOTE: Please use your portrait image by INKO for personal use only and refrain from using it for commercial profit-making purposes.

INKO offers another personal digital portrait sessions on 27th November. For these sessions, models will be wearing Japanese costumes ( Kimono, Samurai or Ninja) of your choice in a portrait. Please here for details.

How it works:

  1. Prior to the session, please send us a few of a model(s)’ photos (above chest, ideally different angles) so that INKO will have a clearer image of a model(s) as images on ZOOM can sometimes be blur..
  2. During the session with INKO:
    • Please wear clothing that you would like to be in your portrait
    • Chat any of your preference with INKO – pose/ hairstyle/ expression etc.
    • If this portrait is a secret gift, please give her some info about a model(s) during this session. ( Please make sure you tell her the colour of eyes.)
  3. In a following week of the session, you will receive a portrait in a digital format from HYPER JAPAN.

Japanese manga artist

INKO is a Japanese Manga artist based in the UK. She was born in Kyoto, Japan, and she grew up with manga comics, loving both reading and drawing them. After Graduated Kyoto University of Art & Design, she moved to England and studied at Central Saint Martin’s college of Art & Design.

Her works – cross overs of modern and traditional Eastern and Western cultures – have been recognised by many companies, museums such as British Museum, V&A Museum, Transport For London, Sony Entertainment Japan, and Guardian children’s book. She also delivers manga workshops in schools, galleries and museums such as British museum and Victoria and Albert Museum. She was appointed as a culture and language ambassador with School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

Besides, her work was featured in an ‘Inking Woman 250 years of Women and Comic Artists in Britain (2018)’ and the comic ’Portrait Of Violence’ has won a bronze medal at the Independent Publisher Book Awards in 2018. The multimedia project she took part as an illustrator ‘Flight Paths’ won Innovation in Craft Award at Superfilm Disability Film Festival in 2021. She also actively takes part in art projects such as “House of The Setting Sun” exhibition at Blackwell Arts & Crafts House in 2021.

Her manga books are also available –  “Portrait of Violence (New International)” – an Independent Publisher Book Awards medal, 2018 , “Tam O’Shanter (Cranachan publishing)”, “Manga Yokai Stories (Tuttle)”, “Extreme Stickering Manga (2019)” and atmospheric horror depictions “Tam O’Shanter (2019)”.
