What we do at HYPER JAPAN Online 2021
Wearing Yukata (浴衣) is a Japanese Summer tradition. Originally worn after bathing or as nightclothes – Yukata literally means ” bathing clothing” – recently wearing Yukata become a trend, especially amongst young people, as a way of dressing for summer festivals and fireworks events. If you have stayed at a Ryokan – a Japanese inn – in one of the hot spring spa towns of Japan, you might have worn one with a simple sash provided by the inn. Yukata are made of cotton and worn with an obi belt (a broad sash for ladies/a sash for gentlemen ). Sometimes the Yukata worn by ladies are made of highly colourful and patterned fabric and worn with particularly beautiful obi.
Join Yuko and find out tips on how to wear your Yukata properly. She will show you 2 different styles of tying obi at this workshop. You don’t need to have your own Yukata with you.
If you’d rather just watch how Yukata is worn, that’s just fine too.
