HYPER JAPAN ONLINE! 2021 has begun, and we’ve entered Kawaii week. So what’s in store? Read on and find out how to get involved!
We’ll be gathering together six exciting fashion brands from Japan for a series of independently produced presentations, all streamed as part of our HYPER J-Fashion event! We’ve been careful to select brands who reflect different aspects of Japan’s fashion scene, from Kawaii to urban streetwear.
Our guest fashion brands are ACDC RAG, 6%DOKIDOKI, Moi-même-Moitié, VUÅSA, Tokyo Uragawa and Furifu. We’re also looking forward to welcoming Addy Harajuku, Kate from Kawaii import shop Grumpy Bunny and RinRin Doll from Tokyo, all of whom will be acting your hosts throughout the event.
Cosplay is returning, and HYPER JAPAN is ready and waiting to help bring the community back. Our HYPER Cosplay! event will feature a collection of photos and videos sent in by cosplay artists from across the UK and beyond, which will no doubt be a diverse testament to everyone’s creativity and passion.
Four experienced cosplayers are ready to judge the contest and award prizes, which include Crunchy Roll guest passes and a spot on Tokyo Shibuya Square’s electronic billboard. Your host for the event is Pixie Late and we’ll also have a special guest appearance from Singing Cosplayer Hikari!
If you’re planning to join us for HYPER J-Fashion you should also check out the following workshop. Fresh from acting as your host at J-Fashion, RinRin Doll will be leading this Harajuku energized session! A YouTuber, model and Tokyo TV host RinRin Doll is an ambassador for Lolita style and has been bringing her interest in Japanese fashion to the international stage.
In this workshop, RinRin Doll teaches Harajuku makeup trends: How to put more focus on the eyes with eyeliner, glitter, blush, and more. Change your perspective on style with RinRin Doll!
Another judge who’ll be sharing their expertise with fans is REIKA, a cosplay artist with more than 600 self-made costumes to her name. After helping to consider entries to HYPER Cosplay!, REIKA will be joining us again to show everyone how to make a Kimono Jacket known as a Haori.
This workshop will take you through all the steps needed to create this stylish article of clothing, which you may have seen in popular anime. You can work alongside REIKA or sit back and watch and she goes from cutting fabric to adding the finishing touches.
Kimonos have become an internally famous product of Japan, but these deeply traditional clothes can be both complicated socially and difficult to properly put on. In this workshop you’ll be talked through the process of wearing summer Yukata Kimono complete with an Obi belt.
Leading this demonstration will be Yuko Boff, member and lecturer of “Omotesenke” tea school and an instructor with plenty of experience when it comes to traditional Japanese gatherings. The session is open to anyone, whether you’d like to watch or even practice at home.
