Asparagus Wrapped in Bacon


  • 12 asparagus stems
  • 6 slices of unsmoked bacon
  • salt and pepper
  • oil for frying
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp mirin


  1. Trim the asparagus and cut each stem into three. Cut each bacon slice in half lengthways.
  2. Bundle the three lengths of each stem together, and wrap a length of bacon around them tightly.
  3. Gently heat some oil in a frying pan, and add the asparagus bundles. Place a lid on the pan and cook for 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure the bacon browns all over.
  4. Increase the heat, add the soy sauce and mirin for a teriyaki-style glaze, and fry for around half a minute. Remove from the heat and serve, adding salt and pepper as desired.
