Rice Ball (Onigiri)

Classic lunchtime grub; try it instead of your sandwich!


Serves: 1

  • 80g rice, cooked
  • 1/8 sheet nori
  • some salt

<For the filling>

  • Grilled, shredded and salted salmon / Umeboshi pickled plum / Salted cod roe / Tuna, etc.


  1. Wet the palms of your hands and then lightly rub them with salt. Spread the rice in the palm of one hand, making a small hollow for the filling in the centre.
  2. Shape the rice into a triangular form with rice enclosing the filling.
  3. Wrap the nori around the shaped rice ball.
