Ikebukuro Shopping Spots: Here’s Where to Start!
Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store

Ikebukuro is one of Tokyo’s most popular shopping districts. Centered around a major terminal station served by multiple train lines, the area is packed with department stores, shopping malls, restaurants, and more, making it an easy place to add to any Tokyo itinerary.
With more than 80 years of history, Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store is currently undergoing a large-scale renovation, with its food floor and other areas gradually reopening with fresh new looks.

From popular snacks and trending treats that make great Tokyo souvenirs to cosmetics and fashion, there is plenty to browse. Let’s take a floor-by-floor look at some of the shops and items worth checking out during your trip to Japan!
B1F | Souvenir Recommendations for Tokyo Travel! Popular Tokyo Snacks & More
One of the best parts of traveling in Japan is souvenir shopping! Japan is especially known for its wide variety of sweets, with different regions and brands offering their own distinctive specialties, making it fun to browse and choose something one by one. If you want to explore a wide selection of Tokyo sweets all in one place, the basement floor of Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store is well worth a visit.
From brands you can only find in Tokyo to classic Japanese sweets that have been loved for years, everything is gathered together in one area, making it easy to compare options and find the right gift without visiting multiple stores.
VANISTA

First up is VANISTA, a specialty vanilla sweets brand where you can fully enjoy the rare appeal of Tahitian vanilla. The brand uses vanilla from Tahiti, which accounts for less than 1% of the world’s vanilla production, and Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store is the only place in Japan with a permanent VANISTA sales counter.

The first item to catch our eye was the vanilla sandwich cookie. Between crisp cookies is a rich vanilla chocolate filling made with fragrant Tahitian vanilla, with floral and fruity notes, and Yukishio salt from Miyakojima. Tahitian vanilla accounts for 61% of the vanilla used. The gentle sweetness of the Yukishio helps bring out the vanilla flavor even more. With each bite, the cookie crumbles delicately while the rich vanilla aroma fills your mouth and leaves a pleasant lingering finish. This is one of VANISTA’s signature products.

Other options include Vanilla Fleur, a delicate baked sweet shaped like a small flower, as well as a vanilla cake made with Tahitian vanilla and grass-fed butter, with grass-fed butter making up 90% of the butter used. The vanilla almond cake is layered with rich, smooth vanilla ganache and light vanilla mousse, then finished with a vanilla glaze.
*Sales times vary by product.
TOKYO TULIP ROSE

Next is TOKYO TULIP ROSE. Built around the concept of “a flower shop filled with the aroma of butter and cheese,” this flower-inspired sweets brand has four locations in Tokyo, including one here at Seibu Ikebukuro.

The long-selling Tulip Rose Butter & Cheese features tulip petals made from crisp langue de chat cookies, with rose-shaped cream nestled inside. Its floral appearance makes it especially eye-catching as a Japan travel souvenir, while the combination of buttery, cheesy petals and a soft chocolate cream with a texture similar to fresh ganache has been described as tasting “like a rose melting gently inside a savory tulip.
AUDREY

Third is AUDREY, a Western-style confectionery brand centered around strawberries. Its signature product, Gracia, is a popular strawberry sweet in Japan, loved for its charming appearance that resembles a tiny bouquet. It is also delicious served chilled and comes in two varieties, including a gently sweet version and a chocolate flavor with a slightly bittersweet cocoa note.

Another item worth checking out is AUDREY BUTTER, a ribbon-shaped financier. Available only on weekdays, it fills the mouth with the rich aroma of fermented butter and the nutty flavor of almonds. The packaging, featuring a girl holding a basket of strawberries, also makes it worth considering if you are looking for a special gift.
SUGAR BUTTER TREE

Last is SUGAR BUTTER TREE. Its best-known rectangular cereal sandwich combines the nutty flavor and crisp texture of grains with a smooth white chocolate filling.

The brand’s first refrigerated dessert, the “Patisserie Sugar Butter Tree Fresh Butter Sandwich,” comes in a box of five. It combines SUGAR BUTTER TREE’s signature white chocolate with fermented butter and plenty of fresh cream made from 100% Hokkaido milk, creating an even richer, more indulgent flavor. With one bite, it melts softly in your mouth as the rich, creamy flavors of butter and fresh cream spread across your palate.

You will also find GATEAU FESTA HARADA, YOKU MOKU, known for its signature Cigare cookies, and Fukusaya (福砂屋), one of Nagasaki’s best-known traditional confectionery brands. With so many Japanese sweets available in one place, it is easy to compare different options without visiting multiple stores, making this floor a must for anyone with a sweet tooth.
1F | Fragrances for Every Style
After finishing your sweets shopping, head up to the first floor for a different kind of treat: fragrance. The first floor of Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store is home to a variety of fragrance brands.
Officine Universelle Buly

Our first stop is Officine Universelle Buly, or BULY, founded in Paris in 1803.

One of BULY’s best-known products is its water-based perfume. Using water instead of alcohol as the base creates a clearer, more delicate scent while also reducing irritation to the skin. The elegant antique-inspired packaging also makes it an attractive gift. Each fragrance in the classic collection, with its white bottle and gold accents, is said to be inspired by “landscapes and memories encountered while traveling.” Beyond perfume, BULY also offers body oils and milks, soaps, lip balms, and beauty tools such as combs and brushes. Engraving services are also available in-store, making it a good option if you are looking for a more personal gift.
DIPTYQUE

Next is DIPTYQUE, the French fragrance house founded on Paris’s Left Bank in 1961. Created by three founders—a painter, a theater set designer, and an interior designer—the brand has always been deeply rooted in artistic sensibility.

In DIPTYQUE’s white- and black-label perfume series, white labels indicate Eau de Toilette (EDT), while black labels indicate Eau de Parfum (EDP). Do Son is inspired by memories of the Vietnamese coast, where one of the founders spent part of his childhood, as well as the tuberose found there. Its appeal lies in the rich combination of tuberose, jasmine, and orange blossom carried on the impression of a sea breeze. Another category worth checking out alongside the perfumes is DIPTYQUE’s fragrance candles, with a wide range of scents to choose from. A fragrance featuring cardamom, violet leaves, and vanilla was inspired by Monet’s famous Water Lilies series.
JO MALONE LONDON

JO MALONE LONDON is also located on the same floor and is worth visiting at the same time. The brand is well known for its simple, sophisticated fragrances and its “Scent Layering” concept, which encourages combining different scents to create something uniquely your own. For example, mixing a fragrance inspired by the sea with one that evokes a forest can create a distinctive and appealing combination.

Alongside perfumes, the brand also offers popular fragrance candles such as Red Roses and Lime Basil & Mandarin, as well as body lotions, hand creams, body & hand washes, and other body care products. It is a great way to enjoy your favorite scent as part of everyday life.
3F | Must-See Japanese Cosmetics Brands
After fragrance shopping, it is time to head up to the cosmetics floor on the third floor. Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store brings together a wide range of major Japanese cosmetics brands in one place.
ADDICTION

First up is ADDICTION, a makeup artist brand from the KOSÉ Group. The brand is already well known for its single eyeshadows, which can be freely mixed and matched, but its lineup also includes a full range of products from base makeup and color cosmetics to nail products. Recent releases have also placed more emphasis on beauty ingredients, highlighting the balance between skincare and makeup.

As you would expect from a brand with roots in professional makeup artistry, ADDICTION also offers an especially wide range of foundation shades. The formula spreads smoothly even with a small amount and applies evenly without clumping, whether you use your fingers or a brush. Another product that caught our attention is the Confident Matte Lip, released on August 7, 2026. Among the shades, “004 Preppy Rose” has a slightly matte texture and a color that naturally brightens the complexion, making it an easy item to recommend for your makeup pouch.
SUQQU

Next is SUQQU. The first item to look at is “SUQQU The Liquid Foundation e,” renewed and released this February. Designed to deliver the highest level of glow in the brand’s history, the formula spreads smoothly with a soft texture while creating a rich, luminous finish. It applies evenly, adheres closely to the skin, and helps cover the appearance of pores. If you are already a fan of SUQQU base makeup, it is well worth testing in person. “The Primer” focuses on moisture and glow, with 14 Japanese botanical extracts including aloe vera leaf, cherry leaf, and camellia seed extracts. “Protecting Day Cream” combines high UV protection with the feel of a skincare product, featuring a soft, cream-like texture that spreads easily over the skin. You will also find popular brands such as est, IPSA, NARS, POLA, and RMK all in one place.
Take the opportunity to test products you have been curious about, compare items from different brands, and find the Japanese cosmetics that suit you best.
4F | Enjoy a Tokyo Cafe Stop! Tea Time While Shopping
Le Café BENOIT NIHANT

After a full round of shopping, it is time for a relaxed tea break. Le Café BENOIT NIHANT is the first café salon in Japan from renowned Belgian chocolate brand BENOIT NIHANT.

The café also offers several menu items available only at Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store. One signature item is the savory éclair, made by filling light choux pastry with different ingredients. Two versions are currently available: smoked salmon and prosciutto with two kinds of cheese. You can also try the brand’s signature fresh chocolate cake. Popular items may sell out before evening, so if there is something specific you want to try, it is best to visit a little earlier.
Ikebukuro Tax-Free Shopping Info

The tax-free counter is located on the second floor of the annex. When using the tax-free service, a 1.55% handling fee is deducted from the refund amount. The same type of fee is applied at many department stores in Japan, so it is useful to know before you start shopping. Tokyo sightseeing information is also available next to the counter entrance, which can be helpful when planning the rest of your trip.
