What Is Awa Odori?

Awa Odori is one of Japan’s most iconic traditional dances, born over 400 years ago in Tokushima. It’s energetic, rhythmic, and irresistibly joyful — the kind of dance that turns entire streets into a moving festival. Taiko drums, bamboo flutes, shamisen, and dancers chanting “Yattosa!” create a celebration you can feel through your whole body. 

Who Are Warakuren?

Founded in Tokyo in 1976, Warakuren has spent nearly 50 years preserving and sharing the spirit of Awa Odori. Known for dynamic performances that invite audiences to join in, they perform across Japan and internationally. Now, for the first time, they are bringing their authentic festival style straight to London.
