Origami Workshop with Alice Stern
HYPER JAPAN’s beloved Origami workshop is back for 2025! Led by the talented Alice Stern, this year’s workshop series offers something for everyone—from beginners to experienced paper-folding enthusiasts.
Alice is a London-based origami artist, ADHD coach, and child development specialist with a passion for mindfulness and creativity. Her workshops provide a relaxing and engaging space where participants of all ages can experience the joy of origami.
This year, Alice brings you three exciting Origami workshops, each offering a unique experience:
1. Origami Pokémon Making

Unleash your inner Pokémon Trainer and bring your favourite characters to life through the art of origami! In this fun and interactive session, you’ll learn to fold iconic Pokémon, including Pikachu, Jigglypuff, and a Poké Ball, using simple yet effective techniques.
All origami and decorating materials will be provided, so you can personalise your creations and make them truly unique. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced folder, this workshop is open to all ages and skill levels. Children are welcome, but please ensure they are accompanied by an adult for assistance where needed.
Join us for a creative and engaging experience and take home your very own handmade Pokémon models.
2. Advanced Origami Making



Take your origami skills to the next level in this workshop designed for experienced folders. You’ll refine your techniques as you create intricate models, including the traditional origami crane and a selection of seasonal flowers or other advanced pieces.
This session is for those with a strong foundation in origami, as we’ll be working with complex folds and precise details. All materials will be provided, allowing you to focus on perfecting your craft and adding personal touches to your creations.

3. Kusudama ‘Flower Ball’ Making

Discover the beauty of Kusudama, the traditional Japanese art of folding paper into stunning flower balls. In this relaxing and mindful workshop, you’ll learn how to assemble delicate floral origami pieces into a beautiful decorative sphere—perfect for brightening up any space.
This inclusive session is open to all ages and abilities, making it a wonderful activity for families, friends, or individuals looking to explore a creative and calming craft. All materials will be provided, so you can fully immerse yourself in the experience and personalise your Kusudama creation.

* You will need a separate HYPER JAPAN Festival 2025 ticket for the same date.
* Pokémon and Kusadama Making Workshops are beginner-friendly and suitable for all levels.
* Suitable for beginners from 6 years old. (10 years old and under may need an adult’s supervision or help. If an accompanying adult would like to make one on your own, please purchase a separate ticket.)
*Advanced Origami Making workshop is for those with a strong foundation in origami.

I am a London based origami artist and spent several years in Japan. I have been teaching origami since 2015 and have worked in the corporate and private sector with events for Spotify, Hyper Japan, MCM Comic Con, The Hoxton, Proud East (& other East London venues), Taiki Tea, Tootoomoo, Inamo restaurants and more.
My focus is on mindfulness, fulfilment in making something new and beautiful. Origami provides an opportunity to relax and focus on your wellbeing and just take a little time to zone out.
