Tsumami-zaiku is a traditional Japanese handcraft that involves folding and pinching(つまみ-tsunami) small squares of fabric to create sophisticated floral designs. Originating over 200 years ago, it is commonly used to make kanzashi hairpieces worn with kimono.

Perfect for beginners, this session will introduce you to the beautiful traditional Japanese craft of Tsumami-zaiku. During the workshop, you will learn:
- The basic techniques of folding and pinching fabric to create delicate floral designs inspired by Ume (plum blossoms) or Sakura (cherry blossoms) — flowers that symbolize Japan
- Step-by-step guidance on crafting a small and elegant Tsumami-zaiku strap
- An introduction to the history and cultural significance of Tsumami-zaiku

What You Can Bring Home
At the end of the workshop, you will take home your handmade Tsumami-zaiku Ume or Sakura strap.

* The workshop is suitable for beginners from 5 years old. (6 years old and under may need an adult’s supervision or help.)

Tsumami-zaiku Artist
I am Kyoko, artist of Japanese traditional Kanzashi flower "Tsumami zaiku", I learned basic skills from original Japanese method, built my own skills, and have found my unique skills/designs to create “tsumamizaiku” accessories. I don’t only make Japanese traditional accessories but also aim to make accessories that you can wear daily. I also make accessories for special occasions such as wedding too. My designs are inspired by nature, favor a neutral colours, using a shining things like a sunlight.
