Yosakoi Workshop with Yosakoi London Temuzu
Yosakoi is an energetic and dynamic Japanese dance style that blends traditional dance and music with modern influences like jazz, rock, and hip hop. Originating in Kochi, Japan, this lively art form is celebrated at festivals across the country, where dancers perform in vibrant costumes with wooden clappers called “naruko” in hand.
Yosakoi London Temuzu, the UK’s premier Yosakoi dance team, will be hosting workshops where you can experience the joy of Yosakoi firsthand. Learn the steps, feel the rhythm, and immerse yourself in the spirited energy of this unique dance style.
What You Will Learn
In this workshop, you’ll discover the core elements of Yosakoi, from basic movements to the use of naruko. The team will teach you a short choreography inspired by festival dances performed across Japan, allowing you to experience the infectious energy and community spirit that makes Yosakoi so special.
What to Wear:
To fully enjoy the session, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing like jogging bottoms or leggings that cover the knees.

* The workshop is open to all ages, though participants under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.

Yosakoi London Temuzu
Yosakoi London was founded and established in 2016 by a group of individuals who have lived in Japan and danced with local Yosakoi teams during their stay. Between them they have performed at various festivals including the Yosakoi Festival in Kōchi and Yosakoi Soran Festival in Sapporo, Hokkaido.
After returning home they wanted to continue dancing and introduce Yosakoi to the UK, and thus Yosakoi London was born. The group has steadily attracted more members and has performed as the team “Temuzu” at various Japan-related cultural events around the country and in Europe. In September 2016: Yosakoi London Temuzu became a member of the Yosakoi European Network (YEN) which is comprised of various teams across Europe.
